The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge started their 2nd day in Sweden with a focus on the country’s pioneering work in the field of mental health and children’s wellbeing and how children and young teenagers are supported through the Swedish education system.

Once again Prince William and Catherine were joined by the host royal couple Crown Princess Victoria and her husband Prince Daniel.

The first stop of the day was the Karolinska Institute, one of the world’s largest and most prestigious medical universities that accounts for over 40 per cent of the medical academic research conducted in Sweden.

The royal couples met with leading scientific researchers and practitioners to discuss ground-breaking academic work in developmental psychology, and Sweden’s approach to managing mental health challenges, including the impact of physical activity on mental health.

Next stop was the Matteusskolan, a school in the heart of the city centre, where the YAM programme operates.

The royal couple heard about the Youth Aware of Mental Health (YAM) programme, a project for 14 – 16 year olds which promotes increased knowledge about mental health through dialogue and role-play.

Then couple headed towards the NK Department Store with Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel to open an interactive exhibition of UK design, fashion and brands that operate in Sweden.

They heard how UK brands are putting innovation, technology and sustainable practices at the forefront of their businesses.

Next stop of the day was the Haga Palace, Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel’s official residence, for a private tea with the couple.
