Great Ormond Street Hospital has a long connection with The Royal Family; The Queen is currently Patron and has visited a number of times throughout her reign. Diana, Princess of Wales became President in 1989.
Queen Victoria was the first Patron of the hospital, which was founded in 1852, and in 1864 after Queen Victoria had donated toys to the children.
On today’s visit, The Duchess of Cambridge was greeted at GOSH by supporters of the new building project, which will deliver the hospital’s vision of providing modern facilities for its acute inpatients and will see children moved out of old facilities into brand new, modern wards with ensuite bedrooms where parents or carers can stay comfortably overnight by their child’s bedside.
The Duchess then paid a visit to the Panther and Bear Ward, to meet some patients and families, to learn more about how the new centre is having a positive impact on patients and their families.
The Duchess of Cambridge joined a group of children for art activities.
Then Catherine had a chance to meet some of GOSH’s incredible nursing team, whose work enables GOSH to be one of the world-leading children’s hospitals.

It was then time to officially open the new Mittal Children’s Medical Centre.
The center is named after the Mittal family who donated £15 million to the hospital ten years ago for the £321 million medical units for children with problems such as heart and lung conditions.’
It's been wonderful to meet so many families and young people. I've been so inspired by their bravery and courage at such a difficult time. – HRH

Catherine finished the visit with a short speech, to congratulate Great Ormond Street on the incredible work they do.
For today’s visit, Catherine debuted a brand we were long waiting for her to wear. The Duchess of Cambridge wore ‘Lena’ Coat from British label Boden.
The pure cotton structured design is embellished with ruffles at the collar, pocket, and sleeve and falls just below the knees. Fully lined for comfort, it is completed with a button-down placket with large statement buttons.
The piece is also available in Navy tone and is retailing at $330 on Boden.
The Duchess of Cambridge accessorized the outfit’s brown shade. She wore Russell & Bromley Brown Pumps. And carried chocolate Emmy ‘Natasha’ clutch.
Her Annoushka Pearl and Kiki Diamond Hoop Earrings finished the whole look.
After this visit Duchess will undertake her second engagement of the day at Bond Primary School in Mitcham as Patron of Wimbledon, to see the work of the Wimbledon Junior Tennis Initiative.
