Today, King Felipe and Queen Letizia of Spain held a videoconference with the Carrefour Group and its Foundation at the Palace of Zarzuela in Madrid. The call was in line with the Couple’s effort to be in contact with the distribution sector in Spain and to learn the impact of the pandemic in the area of trade, the changes they have had to undertake to open their centres and how they foresee the behaviour of consumers after COVID-19.
Felipe and Letizia recently visited the distribution centre Mercamadrid. The Foundation, through its annual Call for Aid and different programs, has donated in recent years more than 6 million euros in equipment and technology to entities in the third sector. Last year it delivered 9.5 million kg. of food to the Spanish Federation of Food Banks.
Hand in hand with the Talent Direction, it promotes the labour integration of people with disabilities or in a situation of social disadvantage and encourages the participation of Carrefour Spain employees in different social initiatives.
Then Felipe and Letizia held a videoconference with the Spanish Confederation of Travel Agencies (CEAV) to learn about the impact of the pandemic on tourism. The foundation has 7,000 travel agencies that employ more than 70,000 workers are represented, with a 2019 turnover of more than 20,000 million euros.
The CEAV has asked the Spanish Tourism Council (CONESTUR) for direct aid to the sector and the application of EU funds for companies. Added to this is the request to airlines to reimburse passengers, and to IATA to give instructions to their member airlines in this regard.
The confederation has also sent a series of tax measures that they consider urgently applicable and is working on a tourism collaboration project with the autonomous communities that establishes a subsidized check/voucher/credit to encourage Spanish families to enjoy a vacation in Spain.
