The event began with a presentation that showcases the history of the awards as well as a brief introduction of the winners. There were 15 winners for the 2018 edition and 19 winners for the 2019 Gold Medals. Congratulating the winners, King Felipe said, “the winners today are indisputably the brilliant result of an immense personal effort, but you are also, to a large extent, the consequence of the effort of Spanish society as a whole to generalize the access and enjoyment of Culture“.
