The Duchess of Cambridge, a keen tennis lover, attended a homecoming celebration for Great Britain’s US Open Champions including Emma Raducanu, Joe Salisbury, Alfie Hewitt and Gordon Reid at the National tennis centre in London. The Duchess of Cambridge is the patron of the Lawn Tennis Association.

The 18-years old Emma Raducanu won the US Open Grand Slam title by defeating Canadian player Leylah Annie Fernandez. Emma is the first British woman to win a grand slam singles title since Virginia Wade in 1977. The Duchess sent a personal message to Emma after the win, “Huge congratulations Emma Raducanu on your stunning performances and historic Grand Slam victory! Incredible –we are all so proud of you. And Leylah Fernandez well done on your amazing achievements at this year’s US Open, it’s been a pleasure to watch“.

The Duchess of Cambridge joined Emma on the court for a Double-match. After the match, Emma told to ITV, “I’m very, very impressed with the Duchess of Cambridge’s tennis. Her forehand is incredible — it was a lot of fun to play tennis with the Duchess“.

Catherine also met with other British Tennis champions including Alfie Hewett and Gordon Reid, who achieved the calendar-year Grand Slam this year in men’s wheelchair doubles, and Joe Salisbury who was the winner of this year’s US Open men’s doubles along with Rajeev Ram.

There was an awkward moment when Kate first arrived as she was unsure how to congratulate the group.

She said: “Are we shaking hands? I don’t want to break your training bubbles. It’s really awkward, you don’t know quite whether to do it. It is the same with face masks. You never know whether to hug people, congratulate them or shake hands. But amazing, guys honestly, congratulations.”

In very heartbreaking news, another young woman was killed in the streets of Great Britain this month. Sabina Nassa, a 28 years old school teacher was stabbed to death by a man nearby her home. The Duchess of Cambridge shared her condolences with the family.

 

Royal Reporter Roya Nikkah reported that flowers were laid on the behalf of The Duchess of Cambridge, at the vigil held in the memory of Sabina.
