Queen Letizia of Spain sent a virtual message to mark the opening ceremony of the “World Food Forum”. The event is being held in Rome, Italy between October 01 and 05 this year. The focus of the forum is to bring attention to the fight against hunger and malnutrition, as well as the importance of maintaining healthy diets.
The World Food Forum (WFF) is an independent global network of partners, created for and led by youth, to spark a movement to transform our agri-food systems and achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including “Zero Hunger”. The other participants included the President of the Council of Ministers of Italy, His Holiness Pope Francis, and The Queen of the Netherlands. Queen Letizia was appointed FAO Special Ambassador for Nutrition in 2015.

Queen Letizia remarked, “your voice and strength will contribute to identifying challenges and promoting actions. It is about finding solutions that integrate the different interests and approaches of the world community that we form: governments, international agencies, local farmers and producers, women as the backbone of small-scale economies, large corporations, small and medium-sized companies, distributors, workers from the entire value chain in food systems, scientists, and the knowledge they contribute in the field of innovation”.
Encouraging the young people, Letizia said, “Now it’s up to you, the young people, to participate and contribute with your entrepreneurship and energy to the necessary transformation of food systems. Healthy diets must be guaranteed for all, ensuring access for all children to a healthy school menu by 2030. We are all part of a great circle: that of feeding ourselves every day.
your commitment, which is also that of my country, Spain, is not only with the sustainable development goals and the 2030 agenda but also with the collective effort that we must promote to take care of our home, common pantry, and to take care of the people who live in it. I think it is a matter of extraordinary importance. The right to adequate food for the entire world population depends upon this commitment.”
It seems the message was recorded on Tuesday this week after the Lunch with Angola President and First Lady, as Letizia is wearing the same outfit.
