The Princess of Asturias, Leonor, made her Military Uniform debut today. The heiress to the Spanish Throne arrived at the Military Academy of Zaragoza yesterday. King Felipe VI, Queen Letizia and Infanta Sofia dropped Leonor at the Military Academy yesterday. The Palace invited media and photographers to capture the first day and today shared few pictures from Leonor’s first day of training.
The Princess of Asturias will be undergoing three years long military training with all forms of the army. The first phase is the Zaragoza General Military academy. The General Military Academy was founded under the reign of Alfonso XII, on February 20, 1882. The Academy is the highest center of armed forces training in Spain. King Felipe VI was trained at the academy some 38 years ago.
Leonor’s uniform says “Borbón Ortiz”. Bourbon reflects the The Spanish Royal family and Ortiz comes from Queen Letizia’s family name. The Royal Bourbons originated in 1272, when Robert, the youngest son of King Louis IX of France, married the heiress of the lordship of Bourbon. Bourbon Kings first ruled France and Navarre in the 16th century, and by the 18th century, members of the Spanish Bourbon dynasty held thrones in Spain, Naples, Sicily, and Parma. The house continued for three centuries as a cadet branch, serving as nobles under the direct Capetian and Valois Kings. Today Spain and Luxembourg have monarchs of the House of Bourbon.
At the Academy, Leonor will be following the Academy schedule that starts at 6:30 AM every day and concludes at 11:00PM. As per the Academy website, ” The cadet’s daily routine is defined by the strict rigor applied in all events and the observance of the disciplinary rules, hierarchy and unity, essential ingredients to get the maximum efficiency in the Armed Forces. The fundamental military virtues which must lead the way along their military life are gathered and summarized in the Cadet’s Decalogue.“
I believe today was the last glimpse of Leonor’s life behind the Academy walls that Palace shared. Palace did the same when she attended UWC Atlantic College in Wales so that Media will leave Leonor to conclude her responsibilities in private. Next, we will see Princess of Leonor possibly at the National Day in October and then for sure at the 2023 Princess of Asturias Awards that will be held on October 20th in Oviedo.
