Queen Letizia was joined by rapper Domingo Antonio Edjang “El Chojín,” and mountaineer Edurne Pasabán at the event. The World Federation of Mental Health (WFMH) celebrates World Mental Health Day on 10 October in more than 100 countries. This year’s slogan is “Our minds, our rights”.

Showcasing a unique approach to highlight the event, Queen Letizia initiated her speech by quoting verses from the rapper El Chojin, “hago lo que puedo, llego a lo que llego y no es sano que me exija tanto. Duelen los enfados y las malas caras cuando fallo en algo, pero duele más cuando no valoran que lo has intentado. Y lo estoy intentando, perdón si no alcanzo, pero ¿por qué han pensado que lo haría bien todo el rato?“
“I do as much as I can, I get to what I eat and it is not healthy to demand so much from me. They hurt the anger and the bad faces when I fail on something, but it hurts more when they don’t value you’ve tried. And I’m trying, sorry if I don’t get there, but why did they think I’d do it right all the time?” – Translation of Queen Letizia’s Rap at the Mental Health Day
About using the rap in her speech, Letizia said, “If today or tomorrow even one newspaper writes, ‘The Queen Rap for the Mental Health Day’ it will bring attention to the cause”.
Addressing the gathering, Queen Letizia said, “This is a day to reflect what the last 364 days have been like, a day where people with mental health problems look at us in the face and tell us what we should do to improve society, administrations, institutions. So it is advisable to listen to know where the action should go, because investment in mental health is the guarantee of a more prosperous, fairer and more equitable future for all people and because we all have limitations, mistrust, fears, insecurities, we all need tools to face life.”
