Queen Letizia of Spain presided over the BBVA Microfinance Foundation on innovation as a key to combating digital poverty, under the motto “Technology to close gaps.” This was Letizia’s third engagement of the week. Yesterday she first opened the Picasso exhibition and then presented the El Mundo Journalism awards.
The event addresses the digital tools to improve the lives of millions of vulnerable entrepreneurs. It was organized by the BBVA Microfinance Foundation, which has been working in five Latin American countries for more than 15 years and has supported more than 6 million vulnerable entrepreneurs. The event began with the projection of a video on the digitization of the FMBBVA.
Addressing the gathering, Queen Letizia said “In times when artificial intelligence and the analysis of massive data are discussed, there are millions of people for whom an application, geolocation, voice recognition, for example, manage to start their way of life thanks to the granting of a small credit. And thus guarantee their survival and that of their children. I mean decent housing, the necessary training, basic health services.”
