King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia of Spain presented the National Research Awards at the Ducal Palace of the Borjas in Valencia. One of the most important recognitions in Spain in the field of scientific research, the awards recognize the talent of the individuals and entities that, with their work, contribute to the advancement and progress of our society.
The National Research Awards, endowed with 30,000 euros for each prize, distinguish those researchers from Spain who stand out for their trajectory and international relevance in their respective areas of research. They also recognize the merit of young people – with a maximum age of 40 – who have achieved significant achievements in the early stages of their careers.
The awards are presented in 10 categories: Biology, Engineering and Architecture, Humanities, Medical and Health Sciences, Technology, Information and Communication, Law and Economic and Social Sciences, Physics, Chemistry and Natural Resources.
Speaking at the event, King Felipe said, “Today Spain holds relevant scientific and technological leadership: we are world leaders in clinical trials, which will give rise to the new personalised precision medicine; in addition, references in renewable energies, thanks in a large extent to our privileged geostrategic position and the natural wealth of our territory; and we are also among the main economies of the EU in digitization and connectivity..”
