Description
Queen Letizia of Spain splashed the Argentina State Banquet in February 2017 with Joyas de Pasar Diamond Chanton Earrings. Part of the Spanish Royal Family’s Jewel set that is passed down to the Spanish Queens, the earrings have been seen many times since then giving a dazzling touch to Letizia’s style.
The earrings were a wedding gift to Queen Victoria Eugenia by her husband King Alfonso XIII in 1906. The stunning pair of earrings originally featured a round-cut solitaire and were designed by the then Spanish Crown Jeweller ‘Ansorena’. The earrings were part of a set that consists a matching necklace. Queen Victoria Eugenia had the earrings changed a few times and the current art-deco version featuring a cluster design with central diamond surrounded by 12 small diamonds came into existence.
The Queen made her jewellery collection crown property called ‘Joyas de Pasar’ that would be passed down to the next reigning Queen. After Victoria it went to Doña Maria de las Mercedes.
But Maria did not get a chance to wear the earrings publicly as the Monarchy was abolished before her time. From her it was passed down to Queen Sofia who wore the earrings regularly until 2014.
Queen Letizia came into the possession of the jewellery collection in 2014 when King Felipe ascended to the throne. Letizia has worn the earrings consistently and have paired them with almost every Spanish tiara in the last 6 years.

The earrings have become Queen Letizia’s go-to Royal jewel for big occasions – The Princess of Asturias Awards, State Banquets, Foreign Royal events etc.
