Prince George of Wales is turning 10 this weekend. The elder son of The Prince and Princess of Wales, William and Catherine, was born on July 22nd 2013 at the Lindo Wing of St. Mary’s Hospital in London. The Prince is the second in line to the throne of the United Kingdom and 13 realms. To mark the birthday, The Prince and Princess of Wales shared a new picture of the Prince. The portrait was taken by photographer Millie Pilkinton in Windsor earlier this month.

The Wales family is currently on vacation. Wimbledon men’s singles final was their last public appearance last weekend where Prince George and Princess Charlotte joined William and Catherine. The family spends their summer and school break at their Norfolk home, Anmer Hall. The summer break also includes a family vacation abroad, quality time with the Middleton family, and a week at Balmoral Castle. For the last few years, the magical Cornwall has also made its own place in their summer calendar.
It seems like time flies. We all remember the proud smile of Prince William and the glassy eyes of Princess Catherine on 22nd July 2013 when they introduced their first child, George Alexander Louis, to the world on the steps of the hospital. We cannot forget the nervousness in their body language as first-time parents. The Young Prince went on his first-ever royal tour in 2014 and single-handedly ruined the Anti-Monarchy campaign in Australia.
Soon after his birth, we receive the first portrait of the young Prince from the Middleton mansion in Berkshire where Catherine was staying for some time with her parents.
The 2014 Christmas saw Kensington Palace releasing three pictures of their firstborn to mark Christmas. The pictures were taken by The Princess of Wales. Since then we have seen the family’s Christmas portrait growing from 3 to 5 in the span of a decade.
A look at all the birthday portraits of Prince George since 2014. In 2014 the picture was from a visit to the Sensational Butterflies exhibition at the Natural History Museum.
In 2015, The Little Prince was the elder brother. The Palace released pictures of Prince George holding his younger sister Princess Charlotte. The Pictures were taken at Anmer Hall by Catherine.
The official birthday portrait was from Princess Charltote’s Christening.
The 2016 birthday portraits also came from Anmer hall where the family was staying at that time. George was seen enjoying the outdoors. The pictures were taken by his mother, Princess Catherine.
In the year 2017, Prince George’s birthday portrait was taken by famous royal Photographer Chris Jackson after his family’s Poland and German tour.
The 2018 birthday portrait was part of Prince Louis’ christening pictures.
The family celebrated George’s 7th birthday in 2019 on a family vacation with the Middleton family. Two pictures were released, in one picture George, an avid football fan like his father was wearing Team England’s t-shirt.
In 2020, Prince George celebrated his birthday quietly at home in lockdown like millions around the globe.
2021, the picture was a tribute to the late Prince Philip. The picture was taken by The Princess of Wales at Sandringham Estate in which Prince George was sitting on the bonnet of a Land Rover Defender. The Duke of Edinburgh, George’s Great-Grandfather, was known for his passion for Land Rovers.
Last year, the picture was from the family vacation they took during summer break. We never found the location.
A look at other portraits we got from the Palace in the last decade. In 2021, The Prince and Princess of Wales paid tribute to the late Duke of Edinburgh with this lovely picture taken at Sandringham Palace.

George is currently studying at Lambrook School in Berkshire from where he will be graduating in 2026. The next school for the future King is already being explored. Last month, William and Catherine took George to Eton College – the historical school where Prince William found his solace during his parents’ troubling married life.
2023 has seen Prince George touch another milestone when he participated in his Grandfather King Charles’ Coronation in May this year.
