Queen Letizia of Spain was back in the English Capital, London, today. This time the event was something that is very close to her heart – The World Cancer Research Day (WCRD). Letizia was attending an event at the Cancer Research headquarters in London marking the WCRD. Letizia is the Honorary President of Spanish Association Against Cancer.
Letizia was joined by acting Minister of Justice, Pilar Llop for the short visit to the UK. Usually the WCRD was celebrated in Spain only but last year for the first time, Letizia took the event to the International Stage and marked the day in New York, with the First Lady of the United States. And this year the event was celebrated in the United Kingdom to bring more global forces and organization to the platform to ensure advanced research.
The Spanish Queen attended a Round table meeting with the representatives of Spanish Association and British Association along with the stakeholders from some other European countries. Then Letizia participated in a panel where researchers answered various questions and shared the advanced researches and potential of global collaboration in the crucial issue.
The World Cancer Research Day is marked to promote the research and developments in the treatment of Cancer and to discuss the advanced technologies and support to patients and their families. For the past 7 years, the WCRD has been held every September 24, where the international scientific community focuses on areas of improvement to achieve these objectives.
This was Queen Letizia’s third public visit to the UK. She attended the Coronation of King Charles in May this year and then returned for the graduation ceremony of her elder daughter, Princess Leonor of Spain in the same month.
