King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia of Spain are in Netherlands for 3 days long state visit on the invitation of King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima. On the day one, King Felipe and Queen Letizia attended a dazzling State Banquet hosted by the Dutch King and Queen. The State Banquets are the Royal celebration marking the international diplomacy between two countries.
There seems to be some health issues for Spanish Queen Letizia that raised their ugly head back tonight. Letizia has chronic metatarsalgia – pain in the ball of the foot – in both of her feet. She also has Morton’s neuroma in her right foot, which involves a thickening of the tissue around one of the nerves leading to the toes. Turns out the pain in her feet caused such huge discomfort today that she could not stand during the greetings before the dinner.
Hence Letizia was sitting on a high chair while King Felipe, King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima were standing by her side.
Joining both the Royal couples were the future Queen of Netherlands, Princess Catharina-Amalia, the elder daughter of King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima of Netherlands. The Crown Princess was wearing a blue gown with Ruby Peacock Parure. She also received her first foreign Order, The Royal Order of Isabella the Catholic which happened to be her Mother’s first Foreign Royal order too. Queen Maxima received that during her State Visit to Spain in 2001 from Felipe’s father, King Juan Carlos.
Spain holds a special place for the Dutch King and Queen. They met in April 1999 in Seville, during the Seville Spring fair. Both Willem and Felipe referenced to that meeting in their speeches which led to a happy married life of almost 25 years now.
Tomorrow, King Felipe and King Willem will be heading out for various joint engagements while Queen Letizia has one joint engagement with Queen Maxima.
