King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia of Spain presided over the Commemorative literary act of the centenary of the inauguration of the first Casa del Libro (House of the book) ‘Circle of Fine Arts’ in Madrid. The first Casa del Libro, initially named Palacio del Libro, opened its doors at number 29 Gran Vía in Madrid, a building that housed the offices of Espasa Calpe, on April 15, 1923.
The attendees were presented with a copy of the book “100 Years of Casa del Libro”, a special edition that will only be sold in the bookstore where it all began, the one on Gran Vía, 29. In the Ballroom of the Círculo de Bellas Artes, a great book in which a calligrapher wrote down the first lines of a new chapter in the history of Casa del Libro, begun by the writer Carmen Posadas, and which the guests completed with their own reflections.
The Community of Madrid Choir and the Sinan Kay Choir, under the direction of Mrs Lara Diloy, performed the centenary hymn composed for the occasion, interpreting a dialogue between children and adults in which they expressed the vision that one and the other have of reading as a source of knowledge: “Everything happens in the House, / I leave the gaze / of a past that I made in books”.
After the ceremony, The King and Queen toured the exhibition “Previous Chapters-Chronology”. The exhibition covers the 100-year history of Casa del Libro and can be seen later in the Eugenio Trías Municipal Library in Madrid, in conjunction with the Madrid Book Fair.

Moving towards Queen Letizia Style – Letizia was looking stunning in a familiar orange outfit.

Letizia again wore the outfit in May 2021 when she and King Felipe presented the 2020 “Miguel de Cervantes”.

Next week King Felipe and Queen Letizia are taking off. Princess Leonor will be back home for the Easter holiday on Friday and we might see family attending the Easter service on Sunday.
