King Felipe and Queen Letizia of Spain were at CaixaForum in Madrid today to undertake an annual engagement that is a staple part of their summer Royal calendar – Presentation of the “La Caixa” Scholarships. This was Queen Letizia’s second engagement of the week. On Monday, Spanish Queen received the winners of BBVA foundation scholarships and SM award winners at the Royal Palace.
Felipe and Letizia are one of the busiest royals around the globe. Today’s engagement saw them presenting Foundation postgraduate scholarships to 100 university students who will be studying abroad. This year marks the 41st edition of the Scholarships that aims to promote the talent of the most outstanding students by expanding their training in some of the best universities in the world across four continents: Europe, North America, Asia and Oceania.
The “la Caixa” Foundation’s Postgraduate Scholarships Abroad program is a benchmark among the university community. The scholarships are open to all disciplines of study. The program covers the entire cost of tuition and a monthly stipend. In addition, it is responsible for travel expenses and an orientation course before joining the respective universities. Since its establishment in 1982, the forum has allocated 200 million euros to the training of 3,784 students with an average cost of 90,000 euros per student.
Addressing the gathering, King Felipe said, “41 years that demonstrate the solidity of the Foundation’s commitment. A solidity supported by the figures associated with this initiative From a project launched in 1982, with a call for 45 scholarships, it has reached in our days with calls that double the number of grants and also with an Association of Scholars that already has 5,700 members specialized in the most varied disciplines. All of them, all of you, form a true network of academic and professional talent that is a benchmark inside and outside our borders“.
