King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia attended a dazzling State Banquet at Christiansborg Palace in Copenhagen to conclude the day one of their State visit to Denmark. Danish Queen hosted the banquet in the honour of the Spanish King and Queen. King Felipe and Queen Letizia are on their first-ever state visit to Denmark. Interestingly the last Spain state visit to Denmark was in 1980 but the host remains the same.
Queen Margrethe II hosted King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofia at the same palace at a state Banquet in 1980 and 43 years later on Margrethe was hosting their son and his wife at the same palace. The Danish Queen also bestowed the highest order of Denmark ‘ The Order of Elephant’ to the Spanish King and Queen.
As Queen Margrethe II has already received both highest orders of Spain from Felipe’s parent, in return, King Felipe bestowed the Order of Isabella upon Crown Prince and Princess of Denmark, Frederik and Mary.
Joining the Royals at the State banquet were Princess Benedikte, Government and Business delegation from both countries and as well as the social representatives.
The royal Palace’s interior are always the source of fascination but when it comes to state events, these interiors are highlighted through stunning floral arrangements. Tonight’s floral engagement featured autumnal forest colours. The Frederik VI’s dessert set were arranged in light, green, yellow, orange and salmon-coloured shades. The tables for the State Banquet were decorated with leaves from the tulip tree and quinces from Fredensborg Palace together with salmon-coloured carnations, beautiful bright nerines and small-flowered statices. Yellow drumstick flowers were matched with asclepias tuberose – also called orange milkweed – bright viburnum, hypericum and large-headed, peach-coloured avalanche roses.

Moving towards the dazzling style of the night – Queen Letizia of Spain continued her repeat spree and brought a dazzling ball gown from her extensive wardrobe. Queen Letizia was wearing blue sleevless Felipe Varela gown from 2015. She first wore it at banquet hosted during the Preu State visit to Spain.
Queen Letizia was wearing her Fleur-de-Lis Tiara. Designed by Ansorena jewelry, the diamond Fleur-de-Lis tiara is arguably the biggest diadem in the Spanish Jewel vault. The Tiara was a wedding gift to Queen Victoria Eugenia from her husband, King Alfonso XIII, on their wedding in 1906. Queen Letizia first wore the tiara in July 2017 at the UK State banquet.
Queen Margrethe II wore the Danish Emerald Parure with the Order of the Golden Fleece.
